Systems Engineering Beyond SysML
The development of modern, complex engineered systems, such as cyber-physical systems, often aims to manage complexity. Common approaches in this context include developing architectures and describing the problem to be solved and the corresponding solutions using techniques such as Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), which is often based on SysML (and now SysML 2).
A common challenge with these approaches is that the models created in these processes are often transformed into text documents with static images for dissemination to partners within and outside the business. This method only transfers part of the "truth." This creates a knowledge silo early in the process. Furthermore, the use of external ticketing systems to communicate between teams creates yet another knowledge silo that hinders the rapid provision of feedback on changes in the nature or understanding of the problem. This often prevents changes in understanding from being integrated into essential sources of organizational knowledge in a timely manner.
With PREEvision, Vector offers a systems engineering environment designed for the collaborative conception and development of cyber-physical systems across all industries. PREEvision provides a comprehensive set of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and offers full support for the Requirements, Functional, Logical and Physical (RFLP) approach to system design. It also has built-in ticketing, that allows change requests to be directly linked to the artefacts that they relate to for absolute transparency in feedback.
PREEvision's data model provides consistent, bidirectional traceability from requirements to architecture, hardware and software components, testing, ticketing and workflow management, in all directions. By enabling direct interaction with requirements, test specifications, and the physical view of the system's software and hardware architecture, without tool transitions, PREEvision empowers engineers to develop and manage robust, future-proof software-defined systems. Unlike traditional SysML tools, PREEvision provides integrated, up-to-date information across all development streams for all stakeholders at all times.
Vector currently employs more than 4,500 people worldwide and achieved sales of EUR 1.01 billion in 2024. The company is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, and has subsidiaries in Brazil, China, France, Great Britain, India, Italy, Japan, Austria, Romania, Sweden, South Korea, Spain, and the USA.
