Process your customer’s requirements documents faster with the right extension to your RM tool.
The Challenge
Our client, a supplier for the car industry required a software extension to his Requirements Management Tool that would accelerate his processing of his customer’s requirements documents (German: Lastenhefte”). His customer sent regular updates in a format that could be handled with his RM-Tool, but he had no means of identifying the differences quickly. He needed a solution for a complex workflow management quickly.
Meeting the challenge
Using our in depth experience of Requirements Management and Engineering and our extensive knowledge of the tool concerned (DOORS® from Telelogic), HOOD immediately recognised that an extension to the tool was required. HOOD elicited and managed the requirements for the extension. Using an established process for software development, combined with HOOD talented software engineers, a software solution was iteratively developed over a period of six weeks. The following methods ensured the project’s success:
- An experienced team, consisting of project manager, senior software engineer and senior QA engineer had been put together to meet this challenge.
- An agile development process had been chosen with short daily status meetings (“daily scrum”) and weekly status reports to make sure that time slips and problems were identified in the shortest possible time
- Implementation didn’t begin until the system requirements specification (SRS) met HOOD quality standards and was reviewed and approved.
- The implementation, test and system specifications were kept up to date during the development.
- An automated test framework was used to allow continuous testing. At project completion, the system was covered by 200 tests (180 automated, 20 manual tests). The tests were linked to the requirements from the system specification, ensuring that all requirements were tested.

- The final deliverable included all required documentation and detailed installation instructions.
Customer Value
With the help of the Tool extension created by HOOD our client was able to reduce the elapsed time needed to process his customer’s requirements from two weeks to one day. He received a well documented and fully tested software solution.
